Jeep Safaris in Fuerteventura
The jeep safaris are the best tours for visitors to get to know Fuerteventura. The island’s spring weather, the terrain’s orography, the narrow and winding roads, and the need to go off the beaten path to reach some amazing places make off-road tours the best option to get to know the island.
The 4x4s in which the routes are done have a 6-seat capacity, in addition to a seat reserved for the driver. Except for exceptional rainy or windy days, the jeeps will have open tops so you can enjoy some amazing views during the tour, good weather and a more intense experience.

Jeep safari to Cofete Beach
The star excursion in Fuerteventura is the one that leaves from Morro Jable, runs through the Jandía Peninsula and reaches Cofete Beach, one of the largest and most beautiful beaches in the world.
The jeep safari to Cofete is usually made up of a caravan of between 10 and 20 SUVs, depending on the time of year. The tour lasts approximately 5 hours and is done in the mornings throughout the year. In summer, when the days last longer and there’s more demand, an additional departure is done in the afternoon for customers staying in the southern part of the island.
Even though the starting point is the Morro Jable sports pier, the tour offers a pick-up service from the main tourist centers of Fuerteventura. The pick-up in Corralejo is done between 7:45 and 8:00. In Puerto del Rosario it’s around 8:20. In La Pared and El Castillo – Caleta de Fuste it’s around 8:30. In Bahia Playa and Playitas it’s at 8:40. In Costa Clama it’s at 8:45, in Esquizo at 9:00 and Jandía at 9:15.
The basic elements of this tour are fun, nature and adventure, as it will take us through the southern part of Fuerteventura, one of the most virgin and impressive territories of the Canary Islands. Led by expert drivers, we’ll drive through narrow asphalt, dirt and stone roads that are only suitable for this type of vehicle, while we appreciate some of the most beautiful views of Fuerteventura.
The first of these amazing views has actually been a setting in a few movies, and it might sound like it comes from Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings. From the Degollada de la Oveja Viewpoint, you’ll be able to see this same Cofete Beach landscape from a distance.
During the tour, we’ll make other stops, some of which will allow us to see “cardonales”, groups of a plant known as cardón or euphorbia canariensis, which is similar to a cactus, but which reaches 3 meters in height and is representative of the island.
Once we arrive at Cofete Beach, we’ll make a 25-minute stop so that you can walk around and take some pictures, which we bet you’ll remember the most from your stay on the island. We won’t be able to bathe on the beach, since bathing is prohibited due to its large waves and strong currents. We also won’t have time to explore its 12 km in length, but you’ll have enough time to distinguish this beach’s immensity.
We’ll make three more stops before returning to Morro Jable. One to eat, another to bath in a cove and the last to visit the Jandía Lighthouse, whose spotlight has guided European ships sailing near Fuerteventura and heading for West African ports since 1864.
Recommendations:
- Wear comfortable clothing, a hat, sunglasses and warm clothing to protect yourself from the wind. If you’re planning on bathing, bring a swimsuit and a towel.
- Tours aren’t suitable for people in wheelchairs, and pregnant women.
Jeep safari through central and northern Fuerteventura
The 4×4 tour through the north and center of the island is the ideal option to get to know the most famous beaches in this part of the island, discover its sacred mountains, contemplate the typical landscapes of the island’s center, see a volcano and visit one of its most emblematic buildings.
The excursion is only done in the morning and includes pick-up service from Corralejo’s tourist centers, El Castillo – Caleta de Fuste and Puerto del Rosario. Unlike the Cofete tour, only 1 or 2 6-seater jeeps guided by a driver-guide participate in this tour.
This tour’s great claim is being able to discover the best-known beaches in the north of the island. The first beach we’ll visit is Corralejo beach, which is located in the island’s northwest. The beach is distinctive due to its huge white sand dunes, which reach the turquoise blue shores.
Other beaches that we’ll see during the tour are Playa de la Concha and Las Lagunas de Cotillo, which are frequented by families seeking tranquility and safety, as well as the beaches of Corillo and Águila, which are favored by surfers as they are open beaches with great waves.
But we won’t only see beaches during this tour. On the route through the interior of the island we’ll enjoy some impressive landscapes and discover the Tindaya Mountain, a mountain that was sacred to the ancient aborigines and which is one of the island’s natural symbols.
In summary, fun, nature, adventure and extraordinary landscapes are guaranteed on this jeep tour of Fuerteventura.
Recommendations:
- Wear a hat, comfortable clothing that adapts to the weather forecasts, and some warm clothing.
- This tour isn’t suitable for pregnant women or people who need to travel in a wheelchair.
To enjoy this type of tour on other islands, we recommend the 4×4 excursion in Gran Canaria, the Tenerife jeep safaris and the Lanzarote off-road tour.
